De mexicaanse griep en de komende Wereldspelen
Onderstaand bericht ontving onze team manager over de stand van zaken mbt de komende spelen en de mexicaanse griep. Vooralsnog zijn er nog geen veranderingen op komst en worden de Spelen in Australië verder gewoon voorbereid. We moeten echter wel rekening houden met wijzigingen, indien de WHO of overheden maatregelen gaan nemen indien er sprake zal zijn van een pandemie. Dan kan dat uiteraard ook invloed op deze Spelen hebben. Zie onderstaand oorspronkelijk bericht.

Dear Team Managers
This communication is forwarded to you on behalf of the WTGF and the LOC of the 2009 WT Games. As the Chairman of the Medical Committee of the WTGF and the Medical Advisor to the 2009 Games I wish to inform you and your current or prospective team members that the potential for a pandemic due to swine influenza is under close review by the Games organisers. The first responsibility of the officers to you is to ensure that you and your team members are kept safe from contagion. All risks will be under constant analysis. Presently, I am pleased to advise that authorative sources have provide us with reassurances which will be active for the next month. The following reports should be helpful.
1.The World Health Organisation rates the risk of pandemic as 5 out of 6 therefore it is not necessary to close country borders.
2. National Governments have not suspended sporting assemblies, marches or rallies.
3. The Australian Government has not directed event organisers to cancel events.
4. Local Governments have not closed schools.
5. Internationally respected infectious diseases authorities observe that this infection (swine influenza) is behaving in a relatively low infectivity pattern.
The conclusion is that we should be watchful and be prepared to change strategies, but presently there should be no action and no impediment to preparing to participate in the Games.

I will provide further information, if the situation changes but if there is no further communication on swine influenza it is because there is no reason to change plans for participation.
